- International wealth insurance sales expand materially to £53.0bn over past two years as priorities of High-Net-Worth (HNW) and Affluent individuals evolve
- Strong and growing demand for unit-linked solutions across the largest global regions supporting resilient and diversified market outlook
- Estimates show sales are projected to hit £87bn by FY 2030, driven by rising adoption and awareness, underpinned by strong structural tailwinds
New research from Utmost, a leading global provider of insurance-based wealth solutions, has highlighted the strong momentum in the international wealth insurance market with rapid sales growth in both 2024 and 2025.
The global market study, the second of its kind performed by NMG Consulting, found that international wealth insurance sales increased by 46% between 2023 and 2025, from £36.4bn to £53.0bn. This equates to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21%, with the two-year view providing a strong indication of the market’s current growth trajectory following post-COVID normalisation.
Despite this strong performance, international wealth insurance remains a relatively small part of the wider wealth management landscape, accounting for only around 1% of the c.£49tn global high-net-worth investible asset market (excluding the US). The sector therefore remains significantly underpenetrated, providing substantial scope for future growth.
This opportunity is underpinned by several favourable demographic, client and industry trends. Growing HNW populations are increasing demand for cross-border wealth planning solutions, while improving institutional familiarity, awareness and expansion of advisory distribution from private banks and wealth managers are expected to help drive greater adoption of international wealth insurance.
Reflecting these structural trends, projections from NMG Consulting indicate that international wealth insurance sales could reach £87bn by the end of the decade, a growth of over 60% from current volumes, driven by continued growth in specialist resourcing, placement capacity and higher average case sizes.
Mark Fairbairn, Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs at Utmost, commented: “High-Net-Worth individuals are increasingly looking for solutions that can support their long-term savings requirements.
“As families wealth planning needs evolve, insurance-based wealth solutions are playing a growing role in helping clients structure their assets efficiently and plan for future generations.
“While the international wealth insurance market has grown strongly in recent years, it still represents only a small proportion of the global HNW market, highlighting the significant opportunity given the structural drivers among HNW and internationally mobile affluent families.
“Expanding global wealth, growing demand for succession planning and increased wealth mobility create a compelling backdrop to maintain, or accelerate, the industry momentum seen over recent years.”
